Cabrillo Festival and Macelaru announce 2019 Festival season

The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, America’s longest running festival of new orchestral music, has just released its 2019 Season! It will be celebrating its 57th season and the third season of its esteemed Music Director and Conductor, Cristian Măcelaru. The festival will take place from July 28 to August 11, 2019 in Santa Cruz, California.

This season’s highlights include three world premieres, two US premieres and eight West Coast premieres. The season is women-centric as it will feature a work inspired by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg plus a multimedia harp concerto by Tan Dun about a disappearing women’s language in China.

Some of the featured composers in residence include Wynton Marsalis, Preben Antonsen, Clarice Assad, Anna Clyne, Dan Delius, Vivian Fung, Jake Heggie and Melody Eötvös.

Special guest artists include Nicola Benedetti (violin), Jamie Barton (mezzo-soprano), Inbal Segev (cello), Clarice Assad (piano/vocals), Sarah Fuller (harp) and Roomful of Teeth (vocal ensemble).
