Actress Helen Mirren will emcee the Genesis Prize Ceremony where Itzhak Perlman will receive the “Jewish Nobel” in Jerusalem tonight
Jerusalem (June 23, 2016) – Itzhak Perlman will receive the 2016 Genesis Award today in a Genesis Prize Ceremony emceed by actress Helen Mirren. The prize honors individuals making significant contributions to the Jewish community and the State of Israel through engagement, professional excellence, education and inspiration.
At the event, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will present the Genesis Prize to the 2016 Laureate, world-renowned Israel-American violinist Itzhak Perlman.
Perlman was chosen as this year’s laureate due to his unique contributions to humanity as a musician and educator, his accomplishments on behalf of individuals with disabilities around the world, and his loyalty to the State of Israel. The prize will be dedicated to supporting special initiatives chosen by Perlman, including programming to enhance accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities and acceleration for the development of talented young musicians.
Perlman is the third recipient of this distinguished honor and was chosen as this year’s laureate based on his work as a musician and advocate for individuals with disabilities as well as his overall dedication to the State of Israel. Previous winners have included Former New York City Mayor and philanthropist Michael Bloomberg and award-winning actor and producer Michael Douglas.
