Macelaru to make NY Philharmonic debut this week

Cristian Macelaru makes his New York Philharmonic debut this week in five concerts with the 24-year-old piano dynamo Daniil Trifonov. In performances at Lincoln Center’s newly named David Geffen Hall (formerly Avery Fisher Hall), Macelaru conducts a symphonic poem by Rachmaninoff, Isle of the Dead, and two of Rachmaninoff’s most well-known concertos, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the ever-popular Second Piano Concerto.
