This week, media highlighted James Gaffigan’s newly appointed role as Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Opera’s Principal Guest Conductor.

Klassisk Musik introduced the conductor as “an orchestra builder with high confidence among the musicians”, highlighting how he will serve as Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Opera’s Principal Guest Conductor for two seasons after visiting TSO for the first time in September 2020 where there was an “immediate chemistry between [the] orchestra and conductor.”

In addition, Klassisk Musik outlined how his “first assignment will be on March 9 and 11, 2021 in addition to a concert with Lise Davidsen as a soloist on March 25, 2021.”

Adresseavisen further commented on how Gaffigan “will no doubt help raise the profile of TSO nationally and internationally”, praising his chemistry with the orchestra.

The Violin Channel announced the news on their home page. The site writes: “The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra announced James Gaffigan's new role as Principal Guest Conductor, which will last for two seasons. Gaffigan’s first appearances in Norway will include two opera concerts in March. He currently serves as Chief Conductor of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He was recently appointed Music Director of the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, starting in July 2021.”

“There is something extremely special about the people of Trondheim," Gaffigan said. "In my opinion, Trondheim is the ‘hidden gem’ of the Norwegian music world.”
