“ITZHAK” FILM APPEARS IN OVER 100 THEATERS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA GARNERING HIGH PRAISE; PERLMAN TOURS WITH ZUKERMAN AND CONDUCTS THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC AND SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY

Two thumbs way up! That’s what critics and audiences are saying about Alison Chernick‘s new film ‘Itzhak’, the award-winning documentary on Itzhak Perlman, which is currently playing in over 100 theaters across the United States and Canada. Zachary Lewis of the Cleveland Plain Dealer raves: “If you don't already know and love violinist Itzhak Perlman, you will after watching ‘Itzhak.’ There are, after all, so many reasons to love him. What sets Perlman apart, as the film shows, is his philanthropy and tireless work as an educator, through the Perlman Music Program. That's what pushes Perlman over the edge, from a gifted artist to a worthy film subject and a model human.” Click here for more information on showings and critical reviews!

Meanwhile, Perlman is currently on tour with longtime friend and collaborator Pinchas Zukerman, with whom he appeared for the second time this season in a packed Carnegie Hall on March 22nd and plays at the Kennedy Center on May 23rd in a Washington Performing Arts presentation. Next month, he conducts London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on the Mozart Requiem and leads the San Francisco Symphony on a program featuring Bach’s Concerto for Violin/Oboe and Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

CRISTIAN MACELARU STEPS IN WITH LEIPZIG GEWANDHAUS AND LEADS BERNSTEIN CENTENNIAL PROGRAMS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC

Cristian Macelaru
has had a busy April! Earlier this month, he stepped in at the 11th hour to take over concerts with the Leipzig Gewandhaus which were a resounding success, and he returned to the Danish National Symphony, with whom he made his Carnegie debut 3 years ago, on a Debussy/Beethoven program that featured Joshua Bell as soloist. Over the past two weeks, Macelaru has been leading all-American programs in celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s centennial. In Cincinnati, he conducted the Cincinnati Symphony on a program of Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town and Divertimento, and over the weekend, he led the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on a program that featured Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Chichester Psalms plus Barber’s First Symphony. Next week, Macelaru returns to the Dresden Philharmonie before he heads back to the States for concerts with the Pittsburgh and Atlanta Symphonies.

NICOLA BENEDETTI GETS RAVE REVIEWS FOR TRIO TOUR AND PERFORMS WITH ATLANTA AND BALTIMORE SYMPHONIES

Nicola Benedetti
just completed a highly successful 5-concert tour of North America with her trio comprised of cellist Leonard Elschenbroich and pianist Alexei Grynyuk, acclaimed by London’s Telegraph as “a trio of true stars”. The tour, which included Vancouver Recital Society, Charlottesville’s Tuesday Evening Concert series and Boston’s Gardner Museum, garnered unanimously stupendous feedback from the presenters, critics and audiences! Click here for reviews and highlights.

Immediately following the tour, she performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Atlanta Symphony. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote: “Benedetti has a crisp, centered violin tone that shines in the high register, and she fearlessly navigates to the top of the instrument’s range, hitting stratospheric notes with authority and swaggering vibrato.” This week, Benedetti makes her Baltimore debut on Bernstein's Serenade with Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony, with whom she will tour the U.K. in August in a Bernstein centennial celebration at the Dublin and Edinburgh International festivals.
