Nicola Benedetti garners praise for new Elgar album
This month, GRAMMY® Award-winning Nicola Benedetti released her new album on Decca Classics featuring music by Britain’s best-loved composer, Edward Elgar.
In conjunction with the album, Benedetti launched her online initiative ‘Learn Salut d’Amour with Nicky’ to teach young musicians to learn and perform one of the violin’s most popular pieces with daily YouTube tutorials.
The album has received ongoing critical acclaim since its release.
Geoff Brown of the Times of London gave a 5-star review: “The first thing to spot is Benedetti’s confident ease and sparkle during the many double-stopped passages, executed at lightning speed across the instrument’s range. Yet beyond sheer agility Benedetti offers listeners something even more valuable: a dynamic personal interpretation, refreshing and convincing… She takes on an epic and makes magic.”
Barry Millington of the Evening Standard wrote a 4-star review: “Nicola Benedetti is undaunted and brings her own engaging personality, as well as a formidable technique, to bear in a compelling account.”
Erica Jeal of The Guardian praised: “Benedetti’s vibrant, beefy full-throttle tone is made for the concerto, and she’s an assertive soloist, never disappearing into the glowing textures the London Philharmonic weaves around her.”
Ken Walton of The Scotsman exclaimed: “Nicola Benedetti joins the greats to record Elgar’s Violin Concerto. Far from being daunted by the prospect of recording Elgar’s much-loved composition, Nicola Benedetti has relished the challenge.”
