APAP Honors to recognize groundbreakers and luminaries in a virtual celebration on May 6, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 8, 2021) — The Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) announces the nominees for its APAP Awards. PAMACPerforming Arts Managers and Agents Coalition — is nominated for the 2021 Sidney R. Yates Award for Outstanding Advocacy on Behalf of the Performing Arts.

The APAP Awards celebrate those individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a significant impact on the industry and communities they serve both in the United States and abroad.

PAMAC Founder Charlotte Lee said: “PAMAC is honored to have been nominated for the 2021 Sidney R. Yates Award for Outstanding Advocacy on Behalf of the Performing Arts alongside other organizations and individuals whose work we deeply respect and admire. The pandemic stretched us to come together for the first time in collective action and work harder than ever to protect our precious ecosystem that is so vital to the preservation of our art form. This nomination is a wonderful recognition of the uniting of all segments of our field and how strong we become when we work equitably together. It is all the more fitting that we celebrate this today on April 8, 2021, the opening day of the $16 Billion Shuttered Venues Operators Grant. We look forward to continuing our advocacy efforts as arts organizations rebuild towards a strong and healthy future.”

A total of 53 performing arts professionals and organizations were nominated by APAP members for the following awards and represent the breadth and depth of the performing arts presenting, booking and touring field at this moment. “For the first time ever, given so much great work and the important chance to lift up and celebrate the magnanimity of the performing arts field, we are celebrating all of our nominees and featuring as many as possible during the awards program itself,” explains APAP President and CEO Lisa Richards Toney.

For decades, the coveted awards have been presented annually as part of the APAP Awards Ceremony, traditionally held at the annual APAP|NYC conference. In 2021, the Awards event — renamed The APAP Honors — is being held virtually. APAP will recognize the nominees and announce the final award recipients at The APAP Honors to take place on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 4:00pm-5:30pm ET. The event is free and open-to-the-public.

Final award recipients will be announced at The APAP Honors on May 6, 2021.

About PAMAC

Performing Arts Managers and Agents Coalition (PAMAC) is a coalition of 250+ artist managers, booking agents and independent producers from the performing arts industry. Founded in June 2020 by Charlotte Lee of Primo Artists, in collaboration with David Lai and Cindy Liu at Park Avenue Artists, PAMAC united our segment of the U.S. performing arts field for the first time, with a mission of working together to advocate for federal relief for the arts in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the support from 29 industry organizations, PAMAC took its message to the world with its change.org petition, which secured 17,500+ signatures, and wrote hundreds of letters to urge Congressional leaders to legislate for emergency funding for the entire arts sector. PAMAC’s work reached federal public officials and representatives, most notably in a pivotal August 2020 conference call with Senator Mitch McConnell’s Senior Staff, highlighting the need to address the plight of the arts sector with the “Save Our Stages” Bill. As 2020 drew to a close, PAMAC and the industry celebrated the passage of the $15 Billion “Save Our Stages” Act, now known as the Shuttered Venues Operators Grant, in the second federal COVID-19 relief package, as well as the additional $1.25 Billion in federal funding allocated in the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act.
