The New York Philharmonic has announced plans to tour China in 6 concerts in July 2019 with their Music Director Jaap van Zweden. Joining them on tour will be our pianist Seong-Jin Cho, who performs on their July 2nd concert in Shanghai, presented by the MISA Festival at Shanghai Symphony Hall. This will mark the New York Philharmonic’s fifth season in residence in Shanghai for the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Partnership.

The July 2nd program will feature Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20, with Seong-Jin Cho in his Philharmonic debut, alongside Brahms’s Symphony No. 1.

Launched in September 2014, the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Partnership is a joint endeavor of the New York Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. The partnership began with the establishment of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy in partnership with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and under the leadership of founding president Long Yu. This two-year post-graduate program was designed to address the need for advanced orchestral training in China.
