Benedetti performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Mark Wigglesworth and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The July 27, 2019 performance received unanimous praise:

The Guardian said in their 5-star review: “Soloist Nicola Benedetti had been working with the orchestra during their week-long course and the rapport showed. For herself, Benedetti shaped a secure and expansive performance, giving a real kick to the dance sections of the finale. Her encore, from the Fiddle Dance Suite written for her by Wynton Marsalis, kept on swinging as she walked slowly offstage.”

The Arts Desk said: “Spring rebirth came with Benedetti’s bewitching engagement in the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto… her upper-register sweetness sounded ravishing.”

Seen and Heard International wrote of Benedetti: “She always seems to be at her best in overtly romantic repertoire, and the quality of this performance underlined her excellent credentials. Her playing displayed an attractive warmth of phrase and tone and had a dedicated, inward quality. There was no showing off for effect.”

Classical Source praised: “The outer movements were brisk with an avoidance of rhetorical histrionics… the slow movement certainly struck deep. There is a naturalness about Benedetti’s interpretation.”

The Daily Telegraph wrote: “Benedetti, Wigglesworth and the orchestra all responded to one another to make this an uncommonly fresh and exciting performance. The warmth and poise of Benedetti’s solo musings soon gave way to playing of unvarnished commitment – rave emotion in the best possible sense.”

The Times [of London] shared: “Fresh from the hectic fizz of the finale of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, the violinist Nicola Benedetti spoke about her accompanists, the National Youth Orchestra. After six days of rehearsal, she said that she was ‘moved, impressed and astonished’ by the players, aged 14 to 19.”
